Upper back pain is often the result of muscle strain, improper posture, or a direct blow to the head
Treatment can involve pain relievers, yoga, or possibly even seeing a chiropractor. The upper back includes the uppermost portion of your neck and shoulders. This region is also referred to as the cervical spine.
Cervical spine injuries are common, especially when lifting heavy objects. Overuse of muscles and ligaments can result in back pain, especially when you are in a seated position for extended periods of time. Neck pain is usually not a symptom of a more serious problem and is often caused by everyday activities that cause your spine to become misaligned. If you notice that your pain is becoming chronic or if it is coming from the right side of your body then it is most likely caused by an injury or muscle strain to the cervical spine.
To alleviate the pain, you should first determine if the pain is located inside or outside of your back. Pain is often felt in the lower back and sometimes in other areas of your body as well. If the pain is located inside the back then it is most likely due to an injury to the muscles and ligaments in the lower back. These are often referred to as lumbar injuries.
Once you have determined the location of your pain, it will be easier to treat your condition. If you have an injury that has resulted in an injury to the muscles and ligaments of your spine then you may be prescribed pain relief medication such as pain killers. These pain killers are usually pain reliever medication such as ibuprofen. If the pain is on the outside of your back then it is very likely caused by a sprain or herniated disc.
If the pain is on the inside of your back then it may be caused by a spinal condition known as a pinched nerve. Nerves run from your neck down to each and every part of your body. Pinched nerves are extremely painful and are the result of a misalignment to one of your spinal nerves, which are located in the discs of your back.
Your doctor may recommend a variety of different treatment options, but if you have a pinched nerve it will most likely be treated with medication, which in most cases is pain relievers such as ibuprofen. or acetaminophen.
Chiropractic care, also known as spinal manipulation, is often used to relieve pain in the back as well
Many chiropractors will recommend a series of spinal adjustments to correct misalignment and give your proper spine alignment. These adjustments involve manipulating your back, either by placing pressure on the spine to encourage spinal discs to move in the right direction, or to loosen and straighten misaligned discs.
Soft tissue mobilization is another option. With soft tissue mobilization it is performed by using various instruments and/or splints that are placed around the affected area. This helps to increase range of motion and loosen any tight muscles in your back.
When chiropractic care is not sufficient to relieve the pain in your back you should seek a medical consultation with your doctor. In most cases your doctor will recommend surgery. Surgery is very serious and should only be used as a last resort.
It is important to note that when you begin the process of chiropractic care for your back pain relief you will experience some discomfort and soreness during the course of the treatment. There is no reason for this discomfort and soreness other than that it is the body's natural response to the soft tissue mobilization process.
The good news is that chiropractic care for the back can be done as often as you feel the need to. Many people find it very convenient to take their pain relief in the comfort of their own home and to visit their doctor once per week or more to monitor their progress and adjust their spinal adjustments to relieve the pain.
In summary there is no reason to have back pain. A healthy and active lifestyle can prevent and treat all types of pain in your back including those that are caused by injuries to your spine.
